As 2016 draws to its close, I can only reflect on what a positive and rewarding year it has been for Safari Architects. Our business continued to grow at a very satisfactory rate. We visited over 9 Southern and East African countries on safari - many of them numerous times; with so many highlights that pin pointing one is impossible. Our satisfied clients are growing in numbers, whilst many of you have been there from the beginning and continue to show

It is our great pleasure to introduce you to our newest full-time employee, Mike Sutherland. Mike has been in the guiding industry for many years, has an insatiable appetite for the wild, safaris and photography; and will ignite a deeper sense of adventure in any discerning traveller. He's a great fit for Team Safari Architects and we are very excited to see what his unique contribution to our company will bring in the future. Mike's passion for the African bush began at a very

2016 has been a wonderful year filled with some amazing moments and opportunities. We at Safari Architects, have travelled extensively around the African continent; and on each trip endeavoured to capture the essence of various wildlife encounters through our images. Our goal is to capture moments we experience with our guests so we can all relive these incredible memories in the future. With luck and a keen eye for interesting and dynamic scenes, opportunities are presented which can earn the photographer

East Africa - the original safari destination pioneered by adventurers and infamous international explorers worldwide. Vast open spaces with rolling grasslands interspersed with great lakes and volcanic mountains and added to this, the millions of wildlife that call this place home. A true eden on this beautiful planet. We have mostly managed to protect this space from a modern and expanding world with magnificent lodges that keep the sustainable ecotourism model rolling. Chris went on adventure with a group of

To arrive at a place, walk in the door and be at a loss for words, is not something one experiences many times in life. I had a moment like this recently on a team getaway to The Outpost Lodge in the Northern reaches of the Kruger National Park. Walking into my room at the lodge, a contemporary, wide open space with the most incredible view, made me hold my breath. And just for a second, it felt like I was

In between privately guiding and hosting multi country safaris, Chris found the time to lead and host a walking safari at Tanda Tula's field camp. He says: "Walking safaris and being completely isolated in the African bush, really brings you to the core of what true wilderness can offer. The lack of external stimuli that we are so used to, forces the senses into picking up the real sounds, smells and nuances of nature. The natural light of fires and lanterns cast

The Timbavati private game reserve forms part of the greater Kruger National Park. It falls within the area known as the Lowveld, which is synomonous with excellent game viewing, beautiful vistas and magnificent safari lodges. Chris spent some time there and explored new areas for Safari Architects. Tanda Tula safari lodge was his home for a week and the safari experience was amazing.  The section of the Timbavati where Tanda Tula safari lodge lies is unique. Not only because of the

What was once a dream and a distant hope for two bush lads became a reality a few weeks ago. Mark Smith and Mike Sutherland were to visit Botswana - the Okavango Delta and the Selinda concession. They were to live the dream in one of the oldest and wildest parts of Africa,  to explore its' beauty, experience the lodges and to immerse themselves in the wildlife and the culture. Towering dark grey storm clouds welcomed us to Maun Airport, followed by

Mike Sutherland has just returned from a 7 night private photographic safari to the beautiful Zuka Lodge on Phinda Private game reserve. With the focus on photographing cheetah and black rhino, Mike and Ted set out on with their private land rover to focus on these 2 flagship species on the reserve. The results from the trip speak for themselves. Stepping back onto the reserve where it all began, had me reminiscing of times spent here as a young University Graduate, trying

We have just returned from Wilderness Safaris' Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp. What a sensational experience! Everything here is more intense. Animals, vistas, distances and climate. There is so much space but so little food and water, that all creatures living here do so on a knife's edge. Flying over vast swathes of desert and seemingly desolate land you can't help wondering, what could possibly inhabit and live in such a place? Every time I visit Namibia the same thought goes
